Leicester City 1-2 Southampton: Premier League – Player Ratings

Midfielders
James Ward-Prowse-Midfielder- 8
Despite, being a long-term servant of the club and solid performer, Ward-Prowse has never quite reached his full potential. With the new manager in post, the former Academy product will be hoping that changes quickly.
The Midfielder and set piece taker scored the penalty and caused problems from corners. It’s a good day’s work for JWP.
Midfielder-Nathan Redmond- 9
Although it wasn’t the number 22’s day to get on the score sheet, his first half runs proved to be a good outlet for the team and his defensive Efforts in the Second kept City at bay. Redmond won headers and made escape runs in the second half. Admittedly though, they were very infrequent in the second period.
Stuart Armstrong-Midfielder- 9
In the game’s early stages Armstrong found himself on the end of a couple of decent chances, again proving to be an extra attacking threat from the midfield. The former Celtic man played a key role in the award of the penalty, taking up the ball from Ward-Prowse, and then picking out a nice pass to Shane Long. Nampalys Mendy makes a sloppy challenge, the front man goes down in the area, and the rest is history.
Although the summer signing didn’t have any defensive heroics to speak of awareness and effort were required.
In and amongst the Saints pack of 10 men Armstrong held his own and did not prove to be a weak link. Despite being pulled off before the hour Armstrong has no reason to be disappointed.
Midfielder- Oriol Romeu- 8
Romeu put in the work during an all hands to the pump display. No major faults and no major problems to speak of during the captain’s 90 minutes.
