Strikers and Substitutes

Shane Long, Striker – 6.5

Should have gotten on the score sheet, twice, but good hold up play today with positive runs into the box.  Took a beating, including a cut on his knee, and will likely be rested with Austin and possibly Ings returning Saturday.

Nathan Redmond, Substitute Attacking-midfielder – 7

Huge impact as a substitute and scored a nice goal, chipping the goalkeeper 1 on 1.  Should have sealed the game in extra time but smashed it into the keeper’s chest instead.  A clear difference maker on the pitch, and will likely be forgiven for his penalty miss, but it was not a good one.

Sam Gallagher, Substitute Striker – 5

Tried willingly to make an impact and was given a lot of time to do so, but nothing came off.

Callum Slattery, Substitute Attacking-midfielder – 6

Was positive fresh legs in extra time.  Played an advanced role, and did not have a run at goal, but got his head up and helped drive the ball forward late.

Matt Targett, Substitute, Outside-back – N/A

Came on as the 4th substitute in extra time.  Delivered a quality penalty as the 4th taker.
