Burnley 1-1 Southampton: Premier League – Player Ratings
By Joe Mcindoe
Nathan Redmond gives Southampton a classy lead, but a late handball in the box gives Burnley a share of the points.
The Saints certainly played well against Sean Dyche’s men, but they can’t feel to aggrieved by the final score.
An outside the box hit gave the South coast side the lead, but only after the team received a massive let off.
As Ashley Barnes was brought down by a diving Alex McCarthy, everyone in the stadium must have thought it was a spot kick. Everyone, bar the referee that is. Instead an irked Barnes, was booked for his trouble.
Southampton looked strong throughout the game while playing positive football. When the defence was called upon, they showed their willingness to scrap and find.
Despite looking confident through much of the game, the back line struggled to deal with balls into the box and the introduction of Peter Crouch.
Burnley received the leveller after a high ball into the area was met by the face and then the hand of Jack Stephens. The Centre Back can have little complaint, given that his hand was level with his face.
A Silly mistake might have cost Saints all three points, but they can take comfort from another good performance.
