Not for the first time this season, Southampton surrendered a lead late on as Burnley scored a penalty with the last kick of the game.
Although there were a number of positives to take away from a difficult encounter at Turf Moor, Ralph Hasenhuttl will be frustrated that his side were denied a valuable three points. Jack Stephens was the target of many Southampton fans’ ire as his unfortunate handball led to a penalty which was coolly dispatched by Ashley Barnes. Subsequent replays suggest Stephens was being held by Peter Crouch but Sean Dyche will rightly point to an incident in the first half where his Burnley side were denied a penalty.
In a week in which Hasenhuttl and Dyche both received manager of the month nominations, a draw was probably a fair result. With a six pointer against Cardiff this week, Saints will be hoping that the dropped points in Lancashire do not come back to haunt them. Here is what we can take away from the game.
