Nathan Redmond

The goal Nathan Redmond scored on Saturday was a true picture of his development.  He took up a central position in his free flowing role, received a pass from his centre-back Jan Bednarek, drove the ball right at the Burnley defence, nut-megged ex-Saint Jack Cork, and deposited his strike into the left corner.  What a goal.

Last season, he was playing negatively, stepping on the ball, going square and backwards, and now every time he picks up the ball he looks dangerous.  Amazing what confidence and support can do for a player’s mentality.

There should be some concern about the number of minutes he is playing, but he looks it great fitness and form right now.  It is clear he is the key to Southampton success and even more so with Danny Ings exiting with injury yet again.
