Midfielders

Central-Midfield – Oriol Romeu – 5

No lack of passion from the Spaniard but not one of his better games since his recent renaissance under Hasenhuttl. Picked up his customary booking but on performances like this, people will miss the creativity that Lemina brings.

Central-Midfield – James Ward-Prowse – 5

Another recipient of a yellow card, it felt like the hangover following his recent nominations for Premier League player and goal of the month. Cardiff to their credit, kept Ward-Prowse from having any meaningful impact and whilst his endeavour is not in question, Southampton cannot afford him to go missing in any more games.

Central-Midfield – Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 4

Possibly his worst game this season, he struggled to make his usual runs into space and his passing felt off. He missed the energy of Armstrong and Ings in front of him and given his high standards, he should be rightly disappointed with his performance.
