Forwards and Substitutes

Striker – Nathan Redmond – 6

Redmond didn’t play badly but lacked the ruthless edge that has been present over the last two months. Southampton’s biggest threat but Ings’ absence has put pressure on him to provide the goals and it showed. Saints will need him to step up in the coming game against Fulham.

Striker – Shane Long – 2

Should have started Austin instead. Can be an important squad player but not as a striker and certainly not based on his performance against Cardiff.

1st Substitute – Mohammed Elyounoussi – 2

Just why? Promote Tella to the first team squad.

2nd Substitute – Charlie Austin – 4

No wonder he wants to leave, wouldn’t most of us being behind Long in the pecking order? Should have come on earlier or better still, started.

3rd Substitute – Sam Gallagher – 3

May seem harsh given he was only on the pitch for ten minutes but hard to see what he is bringing to the team.
