Yan Valery
The Southampton youngster had his best game of the season on Saturday versus Cardiff. He nearly scored on two separate occasions, created all by himself while cutting through the heart of the Cardiff defence. The second run, nearly covering fifty yards on his way to goal, was met by a critical Neil Etheridge save. Otherwise the ball was in the back of the net, and still should have been, with two important blocked rebounds on Charlie Austin and Mohamed Elyounoussi strikes.
Valery is a very special talent at nineteen years old, and is full of confidence thanks to his support from his manager. Loaning out Cedric Soares probably only helped his case and it is exciting to think we have not come close to seeing his ceiling yet.
This is a player that will only get better as the season goes on, but due to the relegation battle, he may be the only academy man that gets the opportunities to develop in the first team. Regardless of the results, Saints fans have to be very excited for Yan Valery and the future quality performances he is capable of providing.
