The Captain has endeared himself to Southampton supporters with his high-intensity play on the pitch and his emotional post-match pressers.

Hojbjerg, showed flashes of his potential last season and has really come into his own this year. His high motor has him flying around the pitch making plays on both ends of the pitch.

There is no telling where we would be without the Dane this year. He has been out most consistent player and the numbers show that. He has 3 goals and an assist on the season but it’s the other numbers that paint the better picture.

The 23-year-old is averaging an astonishing 61.2 passes a match at a success rate of 84.9%. He truly is the focal point of the attack and everything goes through him in the middle of the park. In addition to the passing he gets dispossessed less than twice a match and is good for a couple shots per match.

On the defensive side of the ball he is making 2.5 tackles a match and 1.7 interceptions to go along with the tackles. He does let his emotions get the best of him at times and commits silly fouls that have led to his sending off a few times this season but, as he gets older and more mature those problems will disappear.

All around, Hojbjerg is one of the most complete players who puts on the red and white of the Saints. Not only is he a great player he also cares immensely about the club and its future. With the season starting to come to its conclusion we will have to see some inspired performances from that captain if we are to stay up this year and find success for the next.
