Oriol Romeu, Defensive Centre-Midfielder – 5

Romeu took on his defensive role and fell even deeper on the pitch after the half time changes.  Broke up a few attacks, but was not very impactful against Arsenal.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Centre-Midfielder – 5

Saints’ fans are starting to expect more out of their captain, and he did not deliver on Sunday.  The Southampton midfield in general lost their battle as Granit Xhaka picked them apart in the passing game.  Now a full blown emotional response is expected from Pierre and his team on Wednesday night at St. Mary’s.

James Ward-Prowse, Centre- Midfielder – 6

It is kind of scary, but Southampton are counting on this guy to score.  He had two good chances after the half, with the first missing the target completely.  Set pieces will be critical, and for as good as everyone says he is, he hasn’t quite shown that ability yet.

Stuart Armstrong, Attacking-Midfielder – 4

Stuart did not do much of anything before being subbed off at the half.  He took up a very attacking role alongside Nathan Redmond, but never threatened.  One has to wonder if he is suited for the Hasenhuttl system.
