Southampton 2-0 Fulham: Premier League – Player Ratings
By Marc Walker
Manager, Goalkeeper and Defenders
Ralph Hasenhuttl, Manager – 8.5
The perfect line-up considering the players he had available. Gunn kept his place whilst Yoshida and Bertrand added some much-needed experience to the defence.
With Saints out of the relegation zone now, it provides him and his team something precious to build on.
Angus Gunn, Goalkeeper – 7
Kept his place in the side and this may have helped the defence to settle. Good save from Anguissa in first-half and a couple of routine stops in the second period.
Yan Valery, Right Wing-Back – 6.5
Continues to show maturity but had a relatively quiet game in comparison to Bertrand’s influence on the left.
Jan Bednarek, Centre-Back – 7.5
The most consistent player at the club this season and continues to prove Mark Hughes wrong about his capability.
Fantastic ability to block two or three shots a game that goes unnoticed.
Maya Yoshida, Centre-Back – 7
Came back in for Stephens and seemed to add a level of composure to the Saints defence. Will surely keep his place from now on.
Jannik Vestergaard, Centre-Back – 7
Under the radar but is probably as important as anyone else in the back-line at the moment.
Ryan Bertrand, Left Wing-Back – 7
Lots of space down the left flank to run into and drove Saints forward from defence on a number of occasions.
