Manchester United 3-3 Saints, 25th September 1999

A classic encounter played out here and Saints would be thankful for some individual brilliance and a goalkeeping howler.

Marian Pahars opened the scoring with a superb individual effort as he nutmegged Jaap Stam and tucked a cool finish inside the near post.

United struck back with two goals from Teddy Sheringham and Dwight Yorke to lead at half-time but Matt Le Tissier levelled the scores soon after the break.

The hosts must have thought they’d won it when Yorke’s second of the afternoon made it 3-2, but a huge mistake gave Saints a crucial point.

Goalkeeper Massimo Taibi looked like he had Le Tissier’s long-range strike covered comfortably but somehow let the ball roll between his legs and into the net.
