Midfielders

Oriol Romeu, Central Midfield – 6.5

His usual effort and application in the middle looked as if it was going to be rewarded with a point at the Theatre of Dreams but Romeu was unable to prevent a shaky defence from conceding late on.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Central Midfield – 6.5

Hojbjerg was desperate to be involved but lacked the influence he has had in other games this season. That being said, like his midfield partners, the Southampton skipper worked tirelessly for the team and he looks a real prospect as well as a commanding leader. Saints must keep him this summer at all costs.

James Ward-Prowse, Central Midfield – 8

Who is this Ward-Prowse fella we keep seeing on score-sheet? With the recent speculation about a potential England recall, the midfielder will have done his cause no harm with another fantastic performance. The hunger he is now displaying in great to watch and free-kick to level the scores – well it was simply exquisite. With Ings constantly injured, it will need the likes of Ward-Prowse and the other midfielders to chip in. with goals in the coming matches. With the run in ahead, Ward-Prowse could be crucial to Southampton’s survival.
