Southampton put up a valiant performance that came up short but there are a good number of positives that we can take away from this match and build off of.

It was a crushing lost that they probably deserved at least a point from but if the Saints can play like they did against United in the remaining matches they should comfortably be safe from relegation.

Let us take a look at some things we are able to take away from that match at Old Trafford.

Yan Valery is the real deal

The youngsters has been proving himself ever since he got the chance to play in the first team and with is first goal on Saturday he solidified his place as the starting right-back of the future.

Week-in and week-out he steps up and exceeds expectations. He has been asked to stop some of the most prolific scorers in the league and has done so better than most.

He has been developing into a great player right in front of our eyes and it will be more exciting to see where he goes from here.

James Ward-Prowse continues his run

What can be said about the run that JWP has been on for the past few months. He is scoring left and right, delivering wonderful passes, and going fearlessly into tackles.

Hasenhuttl took a young kid who only showed flashes of what he could be and turned him into a player that is looking like he may get a call up to the national team at any time.

If Ward-Prowse continues his stretch he will be a key figure why we are still in the Premier League next season

Gunn looks to have solidified his spot in net

Angus Gunn has started the past few matches in net and has played well. He has shown glimpses of how good he can be and it is exciting. His reaction saves are breath taking and his decision making and aggression to get off his line will help reduce the number of chances the opposition will have.

If this is true the future for Alex McCarthy will likely be with another team. Just having made his national team debut earlier in the season he will want to continue playing first team football and get into the national team as often as he can.
