Southampton: 5 reasons why Ward-Prowse should be in England squad

Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse was left out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad yesterday despite a strong case for a recall.

The 24-year-old has one senior cap to his name but hasn’t received a call-up since 2017, and he will now miss out on upcoming internationals against Czech Republic and Montenegro.

His recent form in the Premier League has seen him net six goals in his last nine games and become a real attacking threat for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s Saints side.

His stats compare favourably to those of the midfielders that did make it but he may have to wait until June for the next opportunity to rejoin the international set-up.
