Set-piece options

Gareth Southgate currently has a healthy number of set-piece takers in his squad and making use of corner and free-kick routines became crucial for England in last summer’s World Cup.

Adding Ward-Prowse to his squad would add another set-piece specialist – and someone who has even been rated the best in the country at executing his deliveries.

Two direct free-kick goals have come for him in the last two games against Manchester United and Spurs and he puts dangerous balls into the box whenever he gets the chance.

This pinpoint accuracy may come in handy in the future after the likes of Harry Maguire and John Stones benefited from set-piece routines in the summer.
