Yesterday three Southampton men were on duty  but one started while the other two were on the bench for the respective countries.

Let us start with Mohamed Elyounoussi who played 72 minutes for Norway who drew 3-3 with Sweden on Tuesday. Norway, started the game on the front foot scoring two but quickly let that lead slip as they conceded 3 unanswered to the visiting side and then ultimately tying it in the final moments of the match.

As for Moi, he started on the left side of a 442 formation and did not have his best performance. He only completed 11 passes at 61% success rate and only managed to take one shot. Although he is having a bit of a rough season he continues to work hard and try to improve and hopefully he starts seeing his hard work pay off.

Next, we will move to our captain, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The Dane started on the bench for his country and came on in the 70th. In his short time on the pitch, Hojbjerg had 24 touches and completed 13 passes to help Denmark comeback from 3-0 down and tie the match 3-3. Denmark drew twice this international break and I am sure Pierre would like to get back to winnings ways on the South Coast with his club.

Finally, Angus Gunn was on the bench for England’s U21’s match against Germany that saw them lose 1-2. Disappointing to not see Gunn be in net for the second match but his reputation in England is continuing to grow and he might even be in play to be the keeper for England in the 2020 Euro’s if he continues to develop the way he has been.

Finally, the long break is over and we can get back to Saint games. Southampton will play Brighton on Saturday in a pivotal match.
