This victory over Liverpool proved crucial in keeping Saints up in their first season back in the Premier League.

Appointing Mauricio Pochettino in January brought wins against Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Reading before the end of the campaign to ensure the club’s top-flight status.

Saints took the lead through Morgan Schneiderlin and doubled their advantage through Rickie Lambert’s deflected free-kick.

Philippe Coutinho halfed his side’s deficit before half-time but superb solo strike from Jay Rodriguez made sure of the points for the hosts.
