The upturn in form that Southampton have experienced under Ralph Hasenhuttl has provided a huge boost to their chances of Premier League survival.

The style of play has improved and some impressive results produced a new-found positivity from the Saints fans as they look forward to hopefully seeing their side in the top-flight again next season.

Our friends over at footystats.org have taken a statistical look at the improvements made since Hasenhuttl took over:

They say football is a game of two halves. That’s certainly the case for Southampton this season.

Looking at the long list of results, it’s instantly obvious when they appointed former RB Leipzig boss Ralph Hasenhuttl. Under Mark Hughes, the Saints won just a single game between August and December. Since bringing in the German coach, they have picked up 24 points from a possible 48, averaging 1.50 points per game.

Throughout this article, we will compare the dreadful first half of the season with the form since Hasenhuttl was appointed. Spoiler: They’re much better.

Under this forward-thinking coach, the future looks bright once more.
