Striker and Substitutes

Shane Long, Striker – 6.5

Smart finish from close-range to give Saints the lead and got through some good work when chasing balls in behind the visiting defence.

With Ings likely to remain as first-choice for the rest of the season, will need to prepare ot make an impact off the bench.

Josh Sims, 1st Substitute – 6

A couple of confident runs straight at the Liverpool defence but not able to get into game enough.

Stuart Armstrong, 2nd Substitute – N/A

Eight minutes on the field but little time to get involved in anything meaningful in attack

Charlie Austin, 3rd Substitute – N/A

On as Saints searched for a goal in final stages but the side struggled to create anything while he was on the pitch.
