A rare Shane Long goal isn’t enough to stop Liverpool’s title progress as they triumph 3-1.

Despite conceding three goals to the Merseysiders, there’s much for Saints fans to be pleased with about the team’s performance. For 80 minutes, SFC defended solidly, scrapped and seized upon the ball in dangerous areas, as they looked to create chances.

Unfortunately, Liverpool capitalized on a moment of sloppy play off Southampton’s own corner. Jürgen Klopp’s men put together a blistering counter advancing from one end to the other in a matter of seconds. Despite suffering a seven-game drought, Mohamed Salah made no mistake and fired passed Angus Gunn.

While Stuart Henderson put the gloss on the visitors’ victory, the South coast side went toe to toe with the title contender and did not look out of place.

Here are the three key takeaways from Southampton’s 3-1 defeat to Liverpool.
