Manager, Goalkeeper and Defenders

Ralph Hasenhuttl, Manager – 8

A positive change to the starting line-up with the direct running and pace of Sims in ahead of defensively-minded Romeu.

Also made substitutions at good times when he side needed them.

Angus Gunn, Goalkeeper – 6.5

Mostly routine work to do as Wolves had just two shots on target all afternoon.

Yan Valery, Right Wing-Back – 6.5

More defensive responsibilities with Wolves’ wing-backs pushing forward but dealt with most things well.

Jan Bednarek, Centre-Back – 7

Three tackles, five interceptions and 11 clearances in another solid display at the back.

Maya Yoshida, Centre-Back – 7

One very good last ditch challenge on Diogo Jota and some important headers on crosses when Saints were under pressure. Set up Long’s third with a hook back into the mix and forced superb point-blank save from Patricio.

Jannik Vestergaard, Centre-Back – 6.5

One lapse in concentration that could have been fatal as he lost possession to Jimenez in a dangerous area, but recovered well and a solid performance otherwise.

Ryan Bertrand, Left Wing-Back – 6.5

Like Valery, forced back by opposing wing-backs to allow the Saints attackers to do their work in behind. Six tackles is a good number considering the amount of defending he had to do.
