Nathan Redmond looks a different player under Hasenhuttl

Redmond’s struggles over the last 18 months have been well documented but it is striking how well the 25 year old has played under Ralph Hasenhuttl since the latter’s arrival in December. He is more clinical than he was under Hughes and Pellegrino, not to mention more decisive in taking on opposing defenders. The direct style of play he has adopted, paired with the return of Ryan Bertrand has been fruitful with 5 goals and 3 assists in the league this season.

Tying Redmond down on a new contract is imperative along with Bednarek, Ward-Prowse and Hojbjerg. Hasenhuttl will doubtless have ear marked Redmond as one of the cornerstones of his team for next season  and if he can keep up his rich vein of form, there is no reason why Gareth Southgate won’t come calling again.

His brace against Wolves demonstrated the confidence that Redmond is currently displaying in his game. The first goal was smartly taken at the near post after a darting run across Saiss left him free to fire into the top corner. The second was even better as Redmond delicately dinked his finish over a despairing Patricio in the Wolves goal. Hasenhuttl acknowledged that he expects a lot from Redmond but the faith shown in the winger is being repaid on the pitch.
