Newcastle 1-2 Saints, 17th January 2015

A superb start to the 2014/15 season had seen Saints fans dreaming of Champions League football.

They would end the campaign in a more than respectable 7th place and owed this finish to an upturn in form over the Christmas period.

January loan signing Eljero Elia was the hero here as he netted his only two goals for the club to secure a priceless three points on the road.

French striker Yoann Gouffran would level the score in the first-half but it was Ronald Koeman’s visitors who would leave as the victors.
