Newcastle v Southampton: Premier League – Opposition Threats

Southampton travel to Newcastle hoping to build on last weeks 3-1 win over Wolves and take a step closer to Premier League safety.

Newcastle sit comfortably in midtable after another season where Rafa Benitez proves his worth as a coach. The Toon recovered from a disastrous start to the season to coast through the year without very little fear of relegation.

Both sides won their last outing, Southampton overcoming seventh placed Wolves at home whilst Newcastle travelled to Leicester City and came away with all three points thanks to a solitary goal from Spanish forward Ayoze Perez.

Aside from the earlier 0-0 draw at St Mary’s fixtures between these sides often throw up a glut of goals, although Newcastle beaten Southampton just once since 2013.
