Saints aren’t safe yet…
On paper Southampton’s situation looks infinitely preferable to Cardiff and Brighton’s, especially with a relatively straight forward run in. Yet with Cardiff battling for every point and Brighton’s scrappy draw at Wolves, Southampton have to be careful not to get complacent that they are already safe.
In reality, one more win ought to secure safety but the last thing the fans (and indeed Hasenhuttl) will want is to face Huddersfield on the last day of the season requiring a result to stay up. Watford have been in decent form, whilst Bournemouth and West Ham are capable of pulling results out of the bag.
It is time for the leaders on the pitch to stand up and calm the nerves across the team. Newcastle was a missed opportunity to secure safety and the Southampton faithful will be hopeful that the team can sneak a result at Vicarage Road on Tuesday.
