Southampton 1-1 Huddersfield: Premier League – Three Match takeaways

Belief Is Back On The South Coast
After two long years of football at St. Mary’s, Southampton fans finally have something to believe in. Mauricio Pellegrino, Mark Hughes, and player sales sent the club into back to back relegation battles, but now a single appointment has reinstated belief.
Even under Hasenhuttl the team continues to drop points from leading positions, but the way the team performed under the Austrian has overshadowed the disappointment. There is a visible system of intent and wins over Arsenal, Tottenham, Everton, Leicester and Wolves have shown there is ability to move up the table next year. The club may not be realistically ready to challenge for a European spot in 2019-2020, but there is evidence that a relegation battle is unlikely to be in the cards.
There is no denying Southampton social media platforms have been overwhelmingly negative in the last two years. Honestly, at times, it was for good reason, but the lack of support for ownership, administration, and players was beginning to drag the club down. The support of a fanbase is directly aligned with performance and success, and Hasenhuttl’s appointment has given all fans hope that a resurgence is in the cards. For that we should be grateful. Erase the past two years from our memories, and move forward with trust in a manager that is out to show he can development individuals and a team in the toughest league in the world.
