Southampton released their 2019/20 kits on Friday morning and the new designs have generated a mixed reaction from Saints fans.

The home shirt retains the red and white stripes that the club is best known for but also includes a black section at the top – something that fans have picked up on so far.

After the positivity around the yellow away strip in 2018/19, the players will wear a grey shirt with fluorescent yellow trims on their travels next season.

A third kit is also revealed as being white with black and red trims, whilst the women’s team will also be wearing the same designs for 2019/20.

The logo of new main club sponsor LD Sports is emblazoned on the front of the first-team kits for the first time, but Virgin Media are retained on the front of both the women’s and academy side’s shirts.

Part of the release online saw Saints players Danny Ings, Maya Yoshida and Nathan Redmond involved in a spoof ‘Saynts Festival’ video.

Announced alongside the kit was Saints Fest, which will see fans invited to St Mary’s for a day of activities on Saturday 29th June (details on the club’s main site).

Our very own poll on our Twitter account helped to sum up the initial mixed reaction to the new kit designs from Saints fans overall.

Two hours in and 76% of all voters had voted to say that it wasn’t too bad or that they didn’t like it at all.

However – as with many things – views changed somewhat when the official club Twitter account released their own pictures of the players wearing the kit (shown above).

Saints fans may remember that last season’s kit had a mixed initial reaction before views then changed over time.

Once we all see our players run out onto the St Mary’s pitch, all of this will probably be forgotten and replaced by the excitement of seeing a full season of football under Ralph Hasenhuttl.
