Southampton: Saints interested in signing Everton duo this summer
By Marc Walker
Southampton have a busy summer ahead of them to sort their squad in time for the 2019/20 season.
Incomings and outgoings are expected as Ralph Hasenhuttl shapes his side for an important first full campaign in charge at St Mary’s.
It appears that the Austrian manager is ready to raid fellow Premier League outfit Everton for two attackers this summer.
The first rumour involves 21-year-old forward Ademola Lookman, who spent the 2017/18 season on-loan under Hasenhuttl at RB Leipzig.
According to a report from the Independent, the youngster will cost around £20m after falling back out of favour at Goodison Park.
Lookman is a player of great potential who always shows a bright spark when he gets the chance. Just six starts came for him in all competitions this season, but his displays with Leipzig and Charlton Athletic in the past have shown talent in abundance.
He is also capable of playing in a variety of positions in attack and his pace could be ideal for the high-pressing football that Saints play at the moment.
Fellow Everton man Yannick Bolasie is also said to be on the radar of the Saints recruitment team too.
According to Goal.com, the DR Congo international is set to leave Goodison Park permanently following the conclusion of his current loan spell at Anderlecht and Saints will rival Newcastle for his signature.
The report states that the Toffees have set his asking price at £7m following his loss of form in recent years.
Bolasie formed a dangerous and creative partnership with Wilfried Zaha in his time at Crystal Palace before joining Everton in a £26m deal.
However, he failed to settle on Merseyside after 32 appearances, whilst subsequent loan spells at Aston Villa and Anderlecht have also been fairly unremarkable.
Whilst his current value may not be so high, bringing him to St Mary’s would be something of a gamble considering his failure to replicate his past form.
He is also potentially past his prime at 29-years-old, whereas Lookman has most of his career still ahead of him.
