According to the Sun, Southampton have been linked to Swansea City midfielder who spent the season on loan at Crystal Palace, Jordan Ayew.

The 27-year-old, did not have his most productive season but could be a solid signing for a cheap price to add some depth to the squad after the departures this summer. He is rumored to cost only around £5m or so, and if the Saints are truly interested they will face some competition from Crystal Palace for the deal.

The Ghana international only appeared in 14 matches this season and collected a dismal 1 goal and 2 assists in those appearances. This would not be a flashy signing but in the long haul of a Premier League season it is good to have players who have experience and can fill some holes if people go down with injuries.

I do not believe he would come into the squad and start but he would be a sort of role player that fills in when need be and keep the team afloat if they run into injury issues. And at a £5m price tag, this deal would not break the bank whatsoever and the club could still pursue their marquee targets.

Hasenhuttl, knows his style of play can be grueling on players and injuries in sport are always present so I think he knows the importance of building depth and being able to plug in players without them missing a beat if worst case scenario does happen.

We are only a few days into the summer transfer window and the rumors are starting to roll. I suspect we will ship some players off before making any signings but either way it is going to be an exciting time for Saint fans.
