Joe McIndoe – Nathan Redmond

Despite finding themselves in a similar relegation scrap last campaign, the contest for Saints player of the season looks significantly brighter this time around. Since Ralph Hasenhüttl’s arrival several players have come to the fore.

Both Jan Bednarek and James Ward-Prowse deserve honourable mentions for their contributions. While the former has lent the back line a degree of stability, the latter has look sharper during attacking play and has scored some crucial goals to keep his side up.

Although there were several contenders, Nathan Redmond gets my vote.

As others struggled to maintain consistency under previous boss Mark Hughes, Redmond was the team’s brightest light.

This season has seen the English international make, forward thinking decisions, combined with a willingness to create and control a move. In most instances, if the attacker failed to perform then the side struggled to muster a threat.

This is a welcome turnaround from a Saint who struggled to impress last season and was often the fans chosen scapegoats.
