The 26-year-old came to Southampton on loan from Liverpool and had a real up and down season that saw him scoring goals and battling injuries throughout.

The Englishman got out to a pretty hot start this season scoring in the second match of the season against Everton and found the back of the net a total of 3 times in the first 5 matches.

It looked like it was going to be a great homecoming for Ings and he was going to easily finish in the double digits for goals this season then injuries started to plague the forward and the goals dried out.

Danny did not score in his final 11 appearances for the club and supporters started asking the question if he is worth the money we are going to pay for him.

Injuries definitely set the striker back a bit this season and if he was healthy the whole season the numbers could tell a different story.

In 24 appearances for the club this season he collected 8 goals and 3 assists and had an average match rating of 6.83 according to Whoscored.com

Ings showed moments of quality this season and if he can harness those moments and become more consistent he will be a solid Premier League striker.

It will be interesting to see where he will fit in next season if Hasenhuttl decides to play Redmond at the striker position and or buy another striker in the transfer market.

With Austin and Long looking like they will likely leave the team this summer Danny Ings will have a chance to prove himself and earn a spot in the starting lineups.

The key will be his health and if Ings can stay healthy there is no reason to doubt he will regain some of the form we saw him in to start the last season.
