The freshly relegated squad have renewed their interest in Targett, who was an important part of the squad that gained promotion just two season ago.

The 23-year-old defender made just 16 appearances in all competitions for Southampton this season and managed to score a goal and collect 3 assists in the Premier League.

Defensively he looked a little suspect. Not always being up to Premier League level and struggled at times to get a foothold in a match.

Still relatively young though, Southampton do believe he can still have a future at the club but I would have to think if the right offer comes in they will be willing to let him go.

Transfermarkt.us has his market value at around £8m and if Fulham want to make the move to London permanent I believe they will probably need to make an offer around the £10m neighborhood.

Fulham, have good reason to want the left-back as he had a very successful loan spell there just a couple season ago.

Let us take a look at some of Targett’s statistics from his half-season on loan. The first numbers that stick out to me are his passing statistics from the Championship.

He was averaging 50.5 passes a match and completed them at a 79.5% rate. Those numbers are outstanding and it is very easy to see why the club is interested in bringing him back to play at the Championship level.

According to WhoScored.com, the Englishman had an average match rating of 7.20 as compared to the 6.89 average rating he carried this season.

Targett, seems to be more comfortable at the championship level and it may be in his best interest to go back down and keep developing his game for a possible return to the Premier League.
