Southampton are now considered one of the 10 teams that are trying to get the signature of 19-year-old midfielder David Turnbull from Motherwell.

The transfer fee for the midfielder will only be about £3m which Southampton could easily cover. The issue is, there are nine other teams in the race for the talented midfielder. Among those interested are Celtic and Burnley.

The Scot, scored an impressive 16 goals from the midfield this season for Motherwell and his ability to score is the main reason he has started to turn the heads of bigger clubs.

Obviously, the Scottish Premier League is not on the same level of competition as the English Premier League but the talent is clearly there and at the ripe age of 19 he has plenty of time to grow into a fantastic player.

At the price tag of £3m there is absolutely no reason why Southampton and Hasenhuttl should not pursue this player.

A year of development with the Austrian will have him ready to face Premier League competition and the idea of Ralph getting his hands on such a raw talent at a young age has to excite any supporter.

The only trouble the club may have in persuading him to come to the South Coast is he may not get any first team football right away like he may at Celtic or Burnley.

But Hasenhuttl, in the half season he was in charge, showed he is not afraid to play youth and the lure of our academy may be enough to get Turnbull to give us his signature.

There has been no shortage of players we have been linked with already this transfer window and with Djenepo looking like he is already wrapped up I say, “why not to Turnbull?” and we should do everything in our power to get him to Southampton.
