Alastair Case – Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Brighton)

Yan Valery and Nathan Redmond deserve honourable mentions for their goals against United and Huddersfield respectively.

Furthermore, James Ward Prowse lit the league up with some beautifully taken free kicks and long range finishes (against United at Old Trafford and Spurs both spring to mind).

Yet, even allowing for the finishes noted above, there was something mesmerising about the way the current Saints skipper Hojbjerg struck his 35 metre thunderbolt against Brighton in the 2-2 draw at St Mary’s.

The power, the precision, the pleasing way the ball just swerved back inside the post – simply majestic.
