Saints 0-0 Burnley, 2018/19 season

For the second season running, a goalless draw at home on the opening day for the St Mary’s faithful.

The visitors had already played numerous games in the qualifying stages of the Europa League and they looked a lot more alert than Saints.

Mark Hughes’ side started sluggishly and mustered three shots on target; perhaps a sign of things to come before his sacking just four months later.

Saints team: McCarthy, Cedric (Elyounoussi 56), Vestergaard, Stephens, Hoedt, Bertrand, Romeu, Armstrong (Ings 56), Lemina, Redmond, Austin (Gabbiadini 72)
