Southampton: No interest shown thus far for Saints goalkeepers
Southampton are looking to offload one of either McCarthy or Forster this summer but there has been no interest in either of the former number 1s.
It has become clear to both players that Angus Gunn will be the starting keeper for the Saints going forward which means one of them will be the odd man out.
McCarthy, was the first choice keeper for the first half of the last season but lost his spot to fellow countryman Angus Gunn shortly after Hasenhuttl took control of the club.
Forster, went a long time in-between appearances for the club but made his return in the match against West Ham where the club suffered a 3-0 defeat to the London side.
Each of the keepers have been linked to multiple teams this summer but the rumors were just that, rumors. For example, McCarthy was linked with Liverpool just a week ago but the clubs have not had any contact with each other in regards to the 29-year-old.
With no interest being shown it should raise a bit of concern for Saint fans. Both of the keepers are on contract until 2022 and the club will be on the hook to pay their wages until then if they cannot find a buyer. This is particularly important for Forster as he has the largest weekly wage on the team and has barely seen the pitch in recent years.
If and when the team is able to offload one or both of the goalies, it will free up money to bring in other players and would allow the club to be able to offer them more money in their contracts.
Angus Gunn is the goal keeper for this club moving forward. He is a promising talent and still has potential to become even better. The question now is who will be the man behind him? McCarthy or Forster.
