Journalist Alan Nixon has recently stated that Championship sides Brentford and Wigan are keen on taking Gallagher from St Mary’s this summer.

After loan spells with both Blackburn Rovers and Birmingham City in the second-tier, the 23-year-old stayed with Saints in 2018/19.

However, he was unable to make an impression on Mark Hughes or Ralph Hasenhuttl and played just 235 minutes of competitive football.

A permanent move to the Championship – where he has 19 goals across two loan spells – could be what he needs to kick-start his career.
