Southampton: The club confirms sale of Gallagher to Blackburn
It was announced this afternoon that Southampton have sold Sam Gallagher to Blackburn for an undisclosed fee that is rumored to be around £5m.
The Championship side finally got there man as they have been linked with Gallagher for some time now. He spent the 16/17 season with Blackburn and scored 11 goals for the club in 35 matches.
It is definitely a good move for the strikers career as it looked he would not get the chance to get regular play time at Southampton. In his time with the club he only scored 1 goal (according to WhoScored.com).
Gallagher spent 3 consecutive season on-loan from his parent club. Spending time at MK Dons, Blackburn, and Birmingham. It was only a matter of time until the 23-year-old was going to be moved to another club.
£5m is not going to the change the club but with the Saints looking to add hopefully a few more members to the first team the extra money will hopefully help push a deal across the line.
Gallagher was one of the players left behind when the squad went to Austria and the first to be sold from that group as well. Next player to go, I suspect, would have to be Mario Lemina or Charlie Austin. Those two will likely cost more money than Gallagher and after they are sold is when we could see the next player brought into the club.
I personally would like to see a centre-back purchased next. We have been linked to a number of them but so far they have been nothing more than rumors.
We wish Sam the best of luck and maybe the next time we will see him it will be in the Premier League with Blackburn!
