It is now being reported that Wesley Hoedt’s agent is offering the play to AC Milan in hopes of a move for the player away from Southampton
After a very tumultuous season with Saints, it looks like the Dutch international’s time with the club could be coming to a close. The defender’s agent apparently met with AC Milan at the clubs headquarters in hopes to draw interest in his out-of-favor player.
With no future at the club and spending the second half on loan at Celta Vigo, it only makes sense the player will be looking for a change of scenery.
In 13 Premier League appearances for Southampton, Hoedt had his share of blunders that left supporters scratching their heads. These mistakes were capped off with 2 own goals to add to his tally.
He was a regular starter for the club under Mark Hughes but after the Englishman was sacked and Hasenhuttl was instilled, the 25-year-old could no longer get himself on the pitch. That led to his transfer to Celta Vigo where he joined fellow outcast, Sofiane Boufal.
His short stint in Spain started out with getting a red card in his first appearance for the club and the club nearly getting relegated, only finishing 4 points above the drop zone.
It would probably be best for both parties if Hoedt found a new team to join this summer. He has the physical qualities to be a great defender and he is still young. It will just come down to if a club is willing to take a risk on him and they believe they can develop him into a serviceable centre-back.
If Hoedt does leave, that makes our need for a new defender even greater. We have not had too many rumblings about potential new signings but I have to believe they club have a few targets they are actively working on bringing to the South coast.
