According to a new report from De Telegraaf, Jordy Clasie’s time at Southampton is coming to a close and he will be joining AZ Alkmaar on a four-year deal.

The 28-year-old is currently undergoing a physical for the Dutch team and is expected to join them on a four-year free transfer. Southampton have bought out the rest of Clasie’s contact allowing him to join AZ for free.

The midfielder has been keen on a move back to the Netherlands for a while now and the sides agreed it would be best to let him go. Clasie has had a couple of rough seasons and is looking for a fresh start in a place he is very comfortable with.

Even though he plays more in a defensive role, the Dutch national has only found the back of the net twice in the past two seasons and it is easy to see why he would like a fresh start.

AZ Alkmaar are getting a solid passer and defensive player in Clasie though and once he gets comfortable in the AZ system he will likely thrive in the Eredivisie.

Clasie is another player off the books for Southampton as they continue to trim the fat of the club. I suspect we will see a few more players sold in the next week or so as the transfer window is rapidly coming to a close.

The season is right around the corner now and the club is looking more and more ready to take on the league. Hasenhuttl, has ensured that they will sign another player it is just a matter of who and when. I believe it would be a centre-back as we are still looking to sell Hoedt.
