Southampton announced that Kingfisher, India’s number-one beer brand, has signed a multi-year partnership that will have their beer be sold at St. Mary’s

“The iconic brand is one of India’s most heralded exports, and, like Saints, possesses a rich history, tracing its roots all the way back to 1857,” the clubs site states.

This deal is the first of its kind for Kingfisher as they have never had a partnership with a Premier League club before. In conjunction with the partnership, the Beer company will be brewing a special, “Southampton FC signature ale,” that will be available for all home matches.

The beer will be made available throughout Saint Mary’s including hospitality suites, The Gasworks, and the brand new fan zone that was announced the other day.

“Shekhar Ramamurthy the Managing Director of Kingfisher’s parent company United Breweries commented, “This is a hugely exciting partnership for the Kingfisher brand and we look forward to engaging with Southampton fans across the globe.

“India’s growing interest in the English Premier League is unquestionable and we are thrilled to be partnering with this dynamic club in world’s best football league.’”

Having a new partnership is always exciting but this one is particularly interesting because it is an in to a new market. India has a population of over a billion people and an ever-growing interest in the English Premier League. With Southampton being the first team to partner with one of their most-recognizable beer brands it nearly ensures there will be a new crop of Saint fans around the globe.

The new exposure for the club will undoubtedly be good for the financial wealth of the club and if it can continue to find new and exciting ways to grow the years ahead are starting to not look so grim as they were just a year ago.
