Q4) Saints have made some very decent deadline day signings in the past. Which of these was the best signing and why?

Sadio Mane is easily the best deadline signing we’ve made in recent history, although he did not hit the ground running; Mane was at one point the best player at the club, and was a real handful to play against due to his dribbling, speed and strength.

To get £35M for him at the time of his sale, a rough £25M profit on what we purchased him for; showed off how our shrewd business can be beneficial to the club.

However, one honourable mention I would like to make in regards to a deadline deal would be Jos Hooiveld on-loan from Celtic in 2011 on transfer deadline night.

Easily recognised as a cult hero during his time at the club, the big man signed permanently with the Southampton just six months later due to impressive performances with Jose Fonte as a solid partnership. Without Jos’ big game goals against the likes of Hull and West Ham twice, we may have never reached the Premier League that campaign. I think many Saints fans would agree.
