Forwards and Substitutes

Danny Ings, Striker – 4.5

Anonymous for the majority of the match, Ings was sacrificed after 65 minutes for Obafemi. Worked hard with the press but didn’t look his usual self. Must. Do. Better.

Che Adams, Striker – 5

It could have been the perfect debut for new signing Adams, especially had he succeeded in diverting an excellent Valery cross into the net early on. Unfortunately for the 23 year old, he went with the outside of an outstretched right leg when the chance was crying out for a left footed finish. In his defence, Adams worked hard throughout but some might suggest he was fortunate not to see red for a late challenge. Luckily VAR was in a forgiving mood.

Substitutes

Michael Obafemi – 5

Didn’t offer much and lost the ball too readily. Will be granted opportunities this season and will need to be sharper when called upon.

Sofiane Boufal – 5

Was brought on to create some space but should have been brought on earlier.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 5

Hasenhuttl confirmed that his skipper was unwell in the morning and his performance from the bench did little to suggest otherwise. A big miss from the starting eleven, Southampton fans will hope he comes back soon.
