Superb Pope save denies Redmond

Whilst the second-half was all Burnley’s, the first was an even affair in comparison and Saints had their own chances to take the lead.

Che Adams had a great opportunity to open his competitive Saints account early on when he met Yan Valery’s cross. He looked to hook the ball back towards an open goal, but couldn’t stretch enough to turn in at the far post.

Then, just before half-time, Nathan Redmond forced a superb save from home goalkeeper Nick Pope.

He cut in from wide on the left in trademark fashion and rifled an effort towards the far corner, but Pope stretched a long arm out to tip over the crossbar.
