Strikers and Substitutes

Nathan Redmond, Striker – 6

Quiet first half, but best when linking up with Bertrand.  Had a chance to take on Oxlade-Chamberlain, but could not beat him 1 on 1.  Worked very hard and did a lot of running to press, but was kept off the ball for most of the game.

Che Adams, Striker – 6

Ran himself into the ground in the first half, displaying some good hold up play.  Did not take up good attacking positions when the ball was wide. Missed a glorious chance to put the Saints up from an early Romeu cross.  Barely got a sniff of the ball while Liverpool dominated possession before being subbed off.

Danny Ings, Substitute, Striker – 5

Nearly made an immediate impact, flashing the ball over the bar with his left foot.   Got a gift of a goal for pressuring Adrian in the 83rd minute.  Then Yan Valery gave him a second present, a ball on his foot inside the six and he flat out missed it.

Stuart Armstrong, Substitute, Attacking-Midfielder – 5.5

Left off the team sheet in week 1, Armstrong was back in the mix and looking energetic from the moment he stepped on the pitch.  Tried hard to make an impact, but did not make a memorable contribution.

Moussa Djenepo, Substitute, Left Wing-Back – 7

Handed his debut in the 78th minute, surprisingly for Bertrand at wing-back.  Won a tackle and handed Alexander-Arnold a yellow card right away.  Then took one of his own in an advanced position late in the game.  Looked so confident in possession, forcing Mane to foul him setting up a 91st minute free kick.  This is the competition that Ralph has been talking about.
