The Saints marched into the Cottage on Tuesday night and came out victorious. Now, they are moving onto the third round of the Carabao Cup, but at a price.

Southampton, started the match on the back foot with Fulham getting the first big chance of the match from a set piece. Bobby Reid, crushed the post with his free kick, and Saints were lucky not to go down a goal as the follow up attempt was fortunately missed. After that, the tide turned a bit to the Saints and from the second half on, it was all Southampton.

It was unfortunate the score line was not more lopsided, as the visitor’s had a plethora of good chances but just could not finish them in typical Saints fashion.

Outside of the score line there are many storylines and takeaways from this match and let us take a look at three of them.
