Fulham 0-1 Southampton: Carabao Cup – Three Key Saints Players
By Harry Tizard
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
Danish International Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is the final man on the list. With Ryan Bertrand out injured and Jake Vokins involved in an under twenty three match just twenty four hours before, the Southampton captain stepped up into a position unfamiliar to where he usually plays in a red and white shirt.
During the game, the former Bayern Munich man attempted more passes, had more touches and completed more long balls than any of his teammates.
Lasting the full ninety minutes, the man making his one hundredth appearance for the club looked assured and confident in a position he had never played in, and had an all round solid performance.
With Hojbjerg being such a complete player in terms of having a high level of ability in both an attacking and defensive sense, it could be debated that he could be used as a utility player in the Southampton squad if needed – in a similar fashion that James Milner does for Liverpool, especially with the pair sharing very similar traits both on and off the field.
