Fulham 0-1 Southampton: Carabao Cup – Player Ratings
By Joe Mcindoe
A Michael Obafemi strike defeats Fulham and fires Southampton to a third-round meeting with Portsmouth.
Obafemi’s first goal of the season secured Saints passage to the third round in the carabao cup. Nathan Redmond drove toward the box, before finding an excellent pass to the incoming striker.
The second half goal was just reward for the visitors who dominated proceedings after the break. Saints continually forced Fulham into turning the ball over in sensitive areas and if it weren’t for poor finishing could have had four or five goals.
This was in stark contrast to the first which saw the Saints almost fall behind. Only a one armed save over the bar from Alex McCarthy save the day. The hosts then also beat the Keeper all ends up, only to fire wide of the mark.
Saints allowed the championship outfit to dominate possession and failed to offer anything of note in a forward capacity. Frankly, the first period was a snooze. We now look at the top performers and those that could do better.
