Marcus Rashford

With Romelu Lukaku out the door and teammate Anthony Martial out injured, English striker Marcus Rashford will be leading the line for the Red Devils come 12:30 on Saturday.

Despite missing a penalty against Crystal Palace (which resulted him in ending the game with a total of zero points) the twenty one year old has still been able to accumulate nineteen points in his opening three matches – scoring on two occasions and getting a single assist.

Despite a recent resurgence through keeping back to back clean sheets, Southampton defenders still struggle to keep their focus for a full ninety minutes. This bodes well from a Manchester United point of view, with a high percentage of the Englishman’s goals coming from clever movement in the box to peel of the defender and release an accurate first time shot into the goal.

His pace in behind will also be a problem, with Ralph  Hasenhuttl unlikely to select both Maya Yoshida and Kevin Danso as part of a back three and is more likely to start with a much slower pair of players in Jannik Vestergaard and Jan Bednarek with one of the two centre-backs previously mentioned.

With both Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba missing penalties in recent weeks, there is no guarantee that United’s most experienced striker will step up to take the spot kick if such a situation occurs – but if he wins the penalty himself, there is little chance another player would take the ball off him.
